Sea lions are very
active. Females have reached oestrus stage, so harem-gathering males are
constantly barking and fighting. Shore fighting is heavy.
Western and central islands are the most active in terms of sea lions'
activities.
Most species of sea birds remain quite active at their nesting sites.
The beautiful sight of the Brown Pelican, the second largest seabird in
Galapagos, is widespread throughout the islands.
Aug. / 2009.
- Galapagos weather
Overcast days, particularly in the Southern islands. However, the temperature
is very nice, air temperature ranging between 22º y 27ºC.
Nights tend to be cooler because the South-east trade winds have picked
up. We recommend you to bring a water-proof wind-breaker, and to take
good care of your skin (sun protection) regardless the fact that days
may be overcast. The sea is getting a bit rough. The water temperature ranges around
24ºC, depending on the site: it gets colder in the West (Isabella
and Fernandina). It is advisable to use a wet suit in case you want to snorkel.
Snorkeling is at its best at this time of the year.
At Espanola, Waved Albatross are back, and Masked Boobies are short to
begin their reproductive season. Frigate-birds continue breeding at North
Seymour, and we see a lot of Galapagos Penguins in the West.
